Two-Spirits in Motion – 1st Canadian Forum

The 1st Canadian Forum on Two-Spirit Peoples, HIV/AIDS and Health was held in Edmonton, Alberta, from February 6–8, 2003, under the theme Building Healthy Attitudes in Families and Communities. The landmark gathering brought together 82 participants to discuss health and social issues affecting Two-Spirit peoples, including HIV/AIDS, addictions, corrections, and the need for stronger community supports.

Among the significant outcomes of the forum was a call for the creation of a national Two-Spirit organization and for continued national forums addressing issues affecting Two-Spirit communities. The gathering became an important part of the foundation of what would develop into the 2 Spirits in Motion Society (2SiMS).

This archival video preserves an important moment in the history of Two-Spirit organizing, health advocacy, and community development in Canada.
